The V. N. Cerveira Experience

 

V.N. de Cerveira is a little town in the boarder with Spain. Always with Minho River at its side, Cerveira has a very interesting centre with its dears (“cervos”) and a main square filled with coffe shops where you can relax and enjoy a the sun!

The Castelinho Park is the perfect place for a walk, practise sports or play with the water games!

 

 

Bienal de Ceveira – This exbition is one of the most important in Portugal when it comes to contemporary art. This year’s moto is: The culture of Power or the power of Culture

 

 

Aquamuseu do Rio Minho – this museum has as main goal to show the natural heritage of Minho River and its main species, the history of fishing and to catch attention to the problems of pollution of water sources.

 

 

 

The Porto Experience

 

Welcome to Porto, the capital of the North of Portugal or Cidade Invicta (Invencible City). It’s the city that gave name to Portugal. It is known worldwide due to Port Wine, its old city centre – considered World Heritage by UNESCO and also thanks to its football team – Futebol Clube do Porto.  

 

Fundação Serralves – What used to be a private property of a very wealthy man (Carlos Alberto Cabral (1895-1968)) it’s a museum in the middle of one of the most precious parks of the city. The museum welcomes temporary contemporary art exhibitions but also has  a private collection with pieces from the most well-known artists. 

 

Palácio da Bolsa – this is one of the city’s main symbols and welcomes more than 200.000 visitors every year. For sure you will fall in love  with its amazingly decorated rooms (like the Arabian Room, the Golden Room or the President’s Room, among others), the great paitings, the frescoes, the staircases. Everything in this building is extraordinary and inspiring.

 Museu do Romântico (Romantic Museum) – this museum recreates the environment of the XIX century. With great views over the Douro River, it tells and important part of Porto’s story and its economical development.  

 

Magestic – more than luxurious coffee shop, majestic is a place that tells the story of Porto. Since the beginning of the 20’s, this place was a meeting point of poets, politicians, artists, being a place of culture, reflection and knowledge.

 

 

Torre dos Clérigos (Clérigos Tower) – It’s considred the ex libris of the city. Built in barroc style, its 75 m high give us the chance to admire an excellent view over the city

 

Livraria Lello (Lello Bookshop) – considered by “The Guardian” as the third most beautiful bookshop in the world, Livraria Lello without a doubt a “must visit” place, when you come to Porto. It seems like a royal library in the heart of the city.

 

Piolho – the mythic place is known by every single student in Porto. Piolho has been the meeting point for the college students (and sometimes, teachers) os the city. This year, Piolho celebrates it 100^th anniversary and it’s more alive than ever!!

 

Port Wine – For sure you have heard about Port Wine, and maybe you have tasted it before. But what makes Port Wine different from the others? Besides the special climate conditions, is the fact that the fermentation is not completed that makes this wine so unique. But don’t worry, you wil have the chnce to learn much more about this during this Summer University. We will be visiting the Port Wine Museum and also Port Wine Caves.

 

This are some of the amazing things we are gonna see in Porto. But there’s a lot more! We couldn't forget about the people!!! This is undoubtfully our main asset in Porto. And you can travel all around the world, and still, you won't be able to find people like the Porto habitants. We are warm, nice, friendly, helpful, honest, trustful, funny, party animals, workaholics... all in all, the best combination possible.
